Relieving Principal Message

Sarah Travis

I'm thrilled to kick off this edition with a recap of what has been an absolutely fantastic term for Armidale Secondary College. As we reflect on the past few months, it's clear that our students, staff, and the wider community have all played a vital role in making this term successful.

From academic achievements to extracurricular successes, it's been a time of growth, learning, and celebration. So, let's dive in and celebrate all the wonderful moments and accomplishments that have made this term truly outstanding for Armidale Secondary College!

Years 7, 8, and 10 emerged victorious at the Northern NSW Regional competition of the da Vinci Decathlon, held at TAS. Their outstanding performance is a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence. Additionally, our Year 9 students demonstrated their impressive skills by securing third place in the competition. Congratulations to all our participants for their remarkable achievements!

Our school captain, Oscar Gates' remarkable achievements have grabbed headlines as he secured 3rd place overall in NSW Level 8 Open, an impressive feat. His outstanding performances, clinching 1st on Pommel, 2nd on Floor, and 3rd on Parallel Bars and High Bar, underscore his exceptional talent and dedication. Now, he sets his sights on the Australian National Championships.

I am very pleased to announce the success of our agricultural and livestock team at the Sydney Royal Easter Show! Among their achievements were clinching the Champion Middleweight Steer title out of a field of 85, dominating the Champion School Parader competition, and securing first and third place with our gilts bred on the school farm. These victories underscore the hard work and dedication of our students, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers for their unwavering support.

While it was disappointing to see the cancellation of this year's Autumn Festival parade and stalls, our talented music students rose to the occasion. They graced the stage at Town Hall with beautiful harmonies and boundless passion, serenading the community with their enchanting melodies. Despite the setback, our students remained committed to spreading music and joy during the Autumn Festival. We couldn't be prouder of their resilience and dedication. Well done, everyone!

In our final week of Term, we extended a warm welcome to future students and their families during our Open Evening, offering them a glimpse into life at our school. The energy was vibrant, and our students showcased exemplary behaviour, captivating our guests with performances that highlighted their talents. We couldn't be prouder of everyone for their dedication to cultivating such a welcoming and inviting atmosphere.

Additionally, I also want to provide you with a brief update regarding the principal selection process at our school. The merit selection process will continue into the next term, with the position to be readvertised in Term 2. In the meantime, I am pleased to inform you that I will continue serving as the relieving principal.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this time. Wishing you all a very safe and happy holiday!
