Prep News

Term 1, Week 6

What we've been up to...

To celebrate our first Wednesday of Prep, we held a 'Teddy Bear Picnic'! We had a lot of fun decorating teddy bear biscuits, making headbands and sharing our learning with the teddies before heading outside to enjoy a picnic.

Thank you!

Thank you to the parents who were able to join us at the Reading Information Night last week. We hope you found the evening valuable and are excited to support your child's reading throughout the year! Attached is a copy of the presentation for your reference.

Cued Articulation

You will have noticed that your child is coming home with actions to match the sounds we are learning. This is not Auslan, it is Cued Articulation. Students often need to be able to see a sound as well as hear them, Cued Articulation aims to help students form a visual picture of each sound which they can then remember and produce.

Here is a link to a video on YouTube which shows each sound and an attachment which will tell you where to find the sound you might be looking for.

Upcoming Fortnight

Literacy:

During week 7, we will learn to say the most common sound for, and how to write 'b, h, n, and o'. In week 8, we will learn the remaining Stage 2 sounds 'd, g, l and v'. We can read and spell lots of three letter words with these sounds! Our book of the week for week 7 is 'Room on the Room' and in week 8 it is 'Monster Chef'.

Prep children have been learning to read three letter words with the Stage 1 sounds. Each child has a list of yellow words in their sound bag. Please encourage them to sound out then blend each word together.

Mathematics:

We will be learning about the numbers 9 and 10, and the concept of 0. We will also learn about 2D shapes and start to solve number problems.

Topic:

During week 7, we will talk about making new connections in our brains when we are learning something new. We will also continue to discuss our family and how our family might look different to another family.

In Respectful Relationships, we will build on our strengths by participating in cooperative games and discuss being kind and brave.
