Respectful Relationships
The Grade 5/6 classes have been completing activities on Emotional Literacy. Our students have a wonderful understanding of their emotions and have delved deeper into what are positive, negative and mixed emotions. They were able to discuss and provide examples of situations/events where you experience a range of these emotions.
Here are some pictures of students work from a lesson they completed recently:

At our assembly last week we announced our level 1 and 2 whole school rewards:
Level 1: Casual Clothes Day
Level 2: Chipnic and Icy-pole
Many of our students have collected quite a few stickers so far, so they are at the stage where they need to decide if they want to 'cash in' their stickers for a reward, or 'save them up' for a more substantial reward later on.
Devin has reached his 10 sticker milestone, but has decided to save his stickers. He is hoping to reach 30 stickers, so he can get out of homework for a week!
Today we held our second SRC meeting for the year. We began discussing ideas for school improvement! We will put our focus on updating and improving learning spaces this year.
Our representatives will be busy gathering ideas from their peers, interviewing teachers, planning, discussing and sharing!
We have some very enthusiastic reps with very clever ideas! We look forward to another great year with great leaders.

Harmony Day - Friday 22nd March
With Harmony Day fast approaching on Friday 22nd March, we would like to invite students and their families to contribute. SGPS is a diverse and wonderful community and we would love to get to know you better!
Harmony Day is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students will participate in a variety of activities in house groups and complete a “passport” to reflect the different cultures explored. As orange is the colour to represent Harmony Day, students are encouraged to wear something orange to school. Students may also choose to wear their traditional/cultural costume to school if they have one.
How to get involved:
Classroom Activities
* To offer an activity, please get in touch with your classroom teacher before the 8th March.
Students will participate in a variety of activities and we would love for them to reflect our SGPS community. If you have an idea of something you would like to share, could you please let your classroom teacher know? For example, this may be:
· An activity such as a dance, song, music, story, origami, craft etc…
· A visual display such as a slide show, photos of your country of origin, traditional dress, cultural artefacts
· A wellbeing activity such as meditation, yoga, tai chi
· Writing such as a story, interview with a family member, or an informative article to be presented in class or the newsletter
Assembly Speakers
*To express an interest in your child speaking at assembly, please speak to/email Mrs Hamilton effie.hamilton@education.vic.gov.au before the 8th March.
We’re seeking expressions of interest from students to speak at assembly. The content of the speech is very much up to how the individual would like to express their culture. Some ideas may include, but of course not limited to:
· Speech introduction section,
· interesting facts about your cultural background,
· a story
