Focus on Learning

Stage 2- Miss Meg Humphrey and Mrs Robyn Wilson

What a fabulous start to the year for Stage 2.

In Maths we have been learning about Position and last week we finished our Black Beard Maps. See below some of our work.

This week we looking at Place value so that we develop a strong number sense.

In English we have been doing work with improving our sentences ready to start our work on Narratives. We have been working on levelling up our words and sentences to improve our writing skills. Using our bump it up wall to inspire us.

Last week we challenged ourselves to plan a silly story using prompt cards, one for character, one for plot and one for setting.

We have been introducing new words to our vocabulary that might be challenging. This week our word was desert; as in abandon. We discussed Homophones and homonyms and wrote sentences using the word desert, desert and dessert.

We also have been learning how to plan a narrative. See photos below of the students buddy planning.

In History we have been learning about "before contact" and investigating all things before colonization.  We have been working in groups to investigate the traditional ways of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In science and tech we have been having fun learning about digital technologies and following algorithms. As a class we have written and followed an algorithm (instructions) to make origami fish and paper planes.

This week we are starting to look at pixels! and will make some pixel art.
