International Student Program Assistant

Each Term, the International Students participate in a lunch time cooking activity and the menu changes accommodating to different country delicacies. This Term was no different and the International Students cooked up a storm making their own “pizzas”.

Very creative and colourful pizzas were presented and cooked to match the wonderful decorations, but the taste was divine. All of the International Students made the time to share their masterpieces with not only the Principal, Mr Adamou, but the Assistant Principals too. A wonderful feast enjoyed by all.

NGSC was delighted to welcome our Sister School delegation Izumiotsu City, on Friday 11 August.

The students and staff from our Sister Schools of:

  • Ozu Junior High School
  • Toyo Junior High School
  • Seifu Junior High School
  • The Education Department of Izumiotsu City

Also, students joining as members of:

  • Izumiotsu City from Otani Junior High School
  • Tezukayama Gakuin Izumigaoka Junior High School

All experienced a week of wonderful opportunities to learn about Australia. This included learning about the Wadawarrung People of the Kulin nation, where our school is located; Australian multiculturism, schools and animals.

They were very appreciative of the warmheartedness that our students and staff, and particularly their host families showed to them over the course of the week.

We would like especially thank the staff and students who hosted, buddied, demonstrated sports and IT, and made the group’s time here something that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

We farewelled the group on Thursday night. Everyone was sad to leave, but so happy to have had the experience.

We look forward to the ongoing relationship with our Sister Schools and we now begin preparations for the 2024 Japan Study from NGSC to visit Izumiotsu.

Multicultural Committee News

We are fast approaching the end of Term 3 and our last Multicultural Community Meeting will be on Monday 28 August, with a myriad of ideas for discussion and planning of our annual Multicultural Festival.

We are getting closer and closer to this grand event which will be held on Friday 20 October, and is not to be missed.  Mark the date in your calendars! Once again, we are asking for your help as the Multicultural Committee will be holding its fabulous traditional home-made cake stall.  We hope we can count on your support to be able to continue and live up to our reputation of having the best cake stall in Geelong.  We welcome all support and any contributions, such as attending on the day or by donating items for the school raffle or providing home baked goods for the cake stall.

Feel free to join us at our next Multicultural meeting on Monday 28 August at 12:45 pm. We will be discussing, preparing and planning for our Multicultural Festival, or you can contact us at the school with your ideas.  The Multicultural Committee values any input from the NGSC community.

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION!

CAKES! SLICES! MUFFINS AND TREATS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE!

Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, Students and Friends,

The fabulous and famous NGSC Multicultural Festival Cake Stall is happening again! But we can only maintain our fabulous reputation if our wonderful families bake cakes/slices/muffins/sweets and send/bring them along for the Multicultural Festival. We will be selling them throughout the day on Friday 20 October at North Geelong Secondary College once again!

The cakes will need to be at school by 10am sharp (on the day). It is OK to send them with the students. If you think you can help, please let us know! Due to health regulations regarding allergies etc., could you attach a list of ingredients (NOT the recipe!) with the goods. The following forms will be available from members of the Multicultural Committee or Mrs Dudas, Ms Carolyn Kent, Mrs Walters and Ms Dridan and /or will be located at the front office and in the staffroom.

Junior National eSports Super Smash Brothers

The platform that we have been following for eSports here at North Geelong Secondary College, is the FUSE cup. The Fuse cup is an international and national school eSports competition that is focused on providing young students with an opportunity to participate in safe, inclusive, supportive and structured school-based eSports competition while developing positive gaming behaviours and digital wellbeing.

Our students from Year 7 and 8 practised Super Smash Brothers during Wednesday lunchtimes. From this we were able to choose one team of 4 players. The students competed on Tuesday, 1 August against other schools across Australia. The students represented our school with great gamesmanship, and skill. We had three of our four players in the top 16 and compete in the quarter finals.

The  photograph is of how North Geelong proceeded in the competition. Our final positions were 9, 10 and 12th. Well done to our players.
