Reminder about Safe Travel to and from School.

You will have heard reports in the media this week of incidents relating to student safety in the local area.  We have not had any reports of incidents involving our students.  Having said that it is important that we remain aware of the situation and take action to increase the safety of our students. The following points may be useful to consider when speaking with your children.

  • Always travel directly to and from school and avoiding making stops or side trips along the way. If you are catching public transport, walk directly to the bus/tram stop or train station.
  • Where possible travel in pairs or groups. You may want to arrange to meet friends and walk to and from school together.
  • Remain alert to your surroundings and try to avoid using your phone while walking.
  • If you are getting picked up, remain on school grounds until your ride has arrived.
  • If there is anything that makes a student feel uncomfortable in any way, they should leave the area and report any concerns to an adult or phone the police.
  • Do not arrive at school before the yard duty teacher comes on duty (8.45am), unless a parent or carer is supervising you.

Parents are reminded that Their Care provides care in the morning from 7.15am and until 6pm in the afternoon.  We encourage parents to use this program rather than dropping their children off early at school in an unsupervised playground.

We understand that as the weather warms up the children like to play in the yard in the morning, but this is not safe without an adult supervising.

Teachers will also have discussions with the children in an age-appropriate way as part of the regular personal safety discussions. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
