Book Week Crafts

In celebration of Book Week we have created a couple of different crafts with the students. The 4/5/6’s after reading ‘Frank’s Red Hat’ by Sean Avery had a go at creating their very own penguin. We used walking mechanisms and we moulded the art drying clay around that. Students added features like eyes, flippers, beak and they could choose to either add a hat or scarf. By the end of the craft we had some great looking penguins. Once they dry the students will love making the penguin walk!

For the F/1/2’s they have been just as busy creating a range of different crafts. We need to go back and add some last details to our medallion which we will complete next week. This week after reading the story ‘Bev and Kev’ by Katrina Germein the students created their very own Bev the Elegant Giraffe. Students had to cut around their giraffe and then we added some different features like spots, eyes, ears and we experimented with fringe cutting for the eye lashes. We need to add the final touches of the horns but what the students have completed so far looks fantastic.

The F/1’s on Thursday after reading ‘Bev and Kev’ again created their own Kev the Friendly Bird. They created a bird that would sit nicely on their arms and who they could talk to and have conversations with while walking. They students loved making their own Kev and were just as excited to take them home to share with families. When students were leaving on Thursday I did see one student having a great time having a chat to their bird. 😊

The F/1/2 students read the book "Snap" with Mrs Smith during MARC lessons today. They then made these wonderful paper frogs!
