The College focus for the winter sporting season can be summed up in one word: commitment. Commitment to self, to team and to College.
Athletes registering for winter sporting teams were asked to:
show discipline by attending all training sessions
show up for their team 100% of the time, ready to compete to the best of their ability
represent the College with pride, by wearing the correct uniform and participating with good sportsmanship.
Students responded overwhelmingly positively to these requests and have reaped the rewards with some highly competitive games, impressive results, and memorable experiences with their peers.
Our thanks to all parents who have supported their children and upheld the parent declaration signed at the beginning of the season. We know that without your support, Chevalier athletes would fall short of their commitments.
Term 2 marked the introduction of a Strength and Conditioning Program to the Extra Curricular portfolio. Designed to support the athletic development of students participating in winter sports, open gym sessions have been well attended with students completing individualised, scaled programs. The Strength and Conditioning team have also supported winter coaches with sport-specific, periodised conditioning programs to enhance team training. These programs will continue to form the basis of conditioning training for our teams moving forward.
After 10 rounds of competition, 18 out of 29 teams advanced to the semi-finals with an additional 2 teams progressing straight to finals. This is a fantastic result, and one that students and coaches can be proud of.

Our team had a great day. Tory P, Darci W and Flynn C all placed 2nd in their respective heats. Barry was led by Jack G (Year 8 )and James B (Year 8) in the Best Presented Steer and Led Steer class, and placed 5th in both. This was a fabulous effort for our first time in the competition, and a great experience for our Year 8 team members who took the lead on this project, mentored by seniors Darci W, Kate B and Flynn C. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and participated not only in parading, but also in junior judging, beef appraisal and Herdsman competition on the day. The results of these, as well as the carcass and champion school, will be announced at the awards ceremony on 8th September.
My Year 11 Agriculture class and I went along to the carcass judging yesterday. We were very impressed with the carcass, and excited that we got Barry to market specifications. This was a great experience for Year 11 to see what they are learning about in real life, in regards to animal production/nutrition and rations in class. The GSSCC competition has been a great addition to our Show Team program, allowing for our younger students to develop skills and work together as a team in a safe, educational environment with 11 other schools.
