WELC – Term 3

We are nearing the end of Term 3 and about 27 students are preparing to graduate from our program. We look forward to celebrating their achievements at a Graduation ceremony as well as watching several performances by WELC students.

Students all went to an excursion on Monday 4 September. Students spent time touring the Melbourne Museum. It was fun to see the history of Melbourne and look at the many strange bugs and insects from around the world.  The group then watched ‘Secrets of the Sea’ at Imax. Students and staff found the 3D movie very interesting and a bit soporific.

Students going to Westall Secondary College after the Language Centre, have spent time discussing what job they want to do in the future and choosing subjects for 2024. These selections have been given to Westall Secondary so they can make timetables for 2024.

Group 4 students are reminded that there is a Reading program every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:30 am.  We encourage all students to come and practice their reading at this time.

A number of our students participated in the AMC Maths Competition and performed very well. We congratulate these students for participating in this extra activity. Many of these students will participate in the AIMO Maths Competition soon. We wish them all the best!

All students in the Language Centre are only in our program for a very short time and we encourage them to use their time well to make the biggest improvement in their English. This will mean they are the best prepared for mainstream schooling when they move to their new schools. We have many books that students are welcome to borrow to practice reading at home and teachers are always available to help students if they need it.

The last day of term is 15 September, and we will have 2 weeks of school holidays. Students should come back to school on 2 October. Please remember that students should wear summer uniform in Term 4.

I hope everyone has a productive final week at school and wish everyone a safe and happy holidays!

Westall International Student Program

We have welcomed 10 students to the International program in Term 3 and now have 83 students. Each month we have celebrated the birthdays of many of our students with a fun birthday cake celebration.

A group of international students went bowling in Week 9 of term. Students had a wonderful time playing a game of bowling, having hotdogs and chips and finishing up with time playing arcade games. It was great for students to spend some time away from school together.

We plan to celebrate Mid-Autumn festival in the final week of term and we wish all families celebrating this time at home a wonderful time.

I would like to remind all international students that they need to let the International team know their travel plans if they plan to go away in the Term 3 holidays. We will need an email from parents and plane tickets in order to approve these plans.

Many of our students will be doing exams next term so I encourage students to use holidays as a chance to revise their school work, as well as a time to refresh and have some fun. Finally, I wish all our international students a wonderful break and look forward to seeing them back at school again in Term 4.
