National Science Week

Science Week was celebrated in Week 6 of this term. There were a range of activities scheduled during lunch-time. It was great to see our students having fun in each of these sessions which was based on the theme of ‘Innovation, powering future industries’. Students showed a lot of enthusiasm by participating in these activities and answering trivia questions related to technology.

To all students who participated in these activities, well done! Thank you to our amazing Science staff for running these activities and special thanks to Jenny for setting them up!

Icreate Visual Arts and Media

Recently, iCreate Visual Arts and Media students have embarked on a collaborative endeavor, pooling their talents in groups to meticulously craft their own beachfront vistas.

This endeavor has entailed a dynamic exploration of diverse materials, where they've engaged in hands-on experimentation to discern the most effective elements.

The culmination of their efforts has resulted in a series of aesthetically captivating compositions, each a testament to their artistic commitment. As varied as the grains of sand along a shoreline, their creations stand as a synthesis of ingenuity and teamwork, underscoring the profound potential inherent in artistic synergy. The juxtaposition of individual perspectives, merged through creative cohesion, has yielded splendid outcomes that grace our senses and spark our appreciation for collaborative expression.

'SASSY CHAIRS’

The icreate – Landscape and Design students were set a challenge, to upcycle IKEA chairs. The challenge was to create vibrancy with colour, as well as apply the design elements of shape and pattern. Shape, colour and pattern were used to create the aesthetics of movement, mood and most of all sass!

The students were given a timeframe of two 75min periods to complete chairs. The chairs originally lived in the middle school staffroom and were used for dining. They now have been upcycled, re-designed and installed in the main school corridor to intrigue and engage the viewer with their vibrancy.

The students used outdoor acrylic paint, a base colour was used to set the tone for the chair, followed by contrasting décor to compliment the chairs. Floral designs, spirals, drips and triangles, repetition of line and smiley sunshine faces can be admired and enjoyed as you walk down the spine of our school – the main school corridor.

Kitchen Corner - Master the Westall Cafe - Purple Day

The story of the purple egg by Sophie of 8C

I had the idea of bringing my grandma's recipe to school because we had a purple day in iCreate Master the Westall café and we wanted to do a purple theme with the food. I thought of the beetroot salad because it’s quick and you don’t need a lot of skill to make it. The colour of the salad was purple and it’s really healthy. The experience was really fun teaching my friends how to make it, and they really enjoyed making it like I do. They also asked of they could have the recipe so I gladly gave it them. You might be deceived by it’s looks but I can assure you its really tasty and nutritious.

Beetroot and egg salad

1 450 gm can Golden Circle sliced beetroot

5-6 hard boiled eggs
