Princes Hill SC gratefully acknowledges the work of Ky-ya from Djirringu Art in producing these artworks. and explaining the meaning of each design.

WAA is Bunjil’s helper and the protector of the waterways. Waa is also Wurundjeri’s totem.

 

LINES IN WINGS: The lines in the wings represent the flow of water, which is a symbol of growing and learning.

 

DIAMOND: The diamond represents resilience and protection.

 

 

The MUK MUK is a symbol of wisdom and a messenger bird.

 

BLACK LINES ON CHEST: The lines on the chest represent unity.

 

BLACK CROSS HATCHING: The cross hatching symbolises teamwork and respecting one another, standing side by side.

 

YELLOW SWIRLY LINES: The swirly lines represent the smoke from our welcome to country fires. The smoke from a smoking ceremony cleanses you from any negative energy/spirits. It is a symbol of cleansing, healing and welcoming environments.

 

The GURRNG GURRNG is the kookaburra.

 

DIAMOND LINEWORK ON CHEST: The diamond linework symbolises resilience and protection.

 

MEETING PLACES ON WING: They represent creativity and the freedom to be your unique self.

 

U SHAPES ON BEAK & CIRCLES ON FACE: The U-shapes and the circles represent the students and teachers.

 

BACKGROUND DESIGN: The meeting places in the background represent the school community and everyone coming together, in an inclusive safe space.

BUNJIL is Wurundjeri’s creator spirit in the physical form of the Wedge Tailed Eagle. He gave life to all living things and watches and protects us from above.

CIRCLES IN WINGS: The circles represent knowledge and wisdom being passed down from generation to generation. 

MEETING PLACE IN CENTRE: The central meeting place on Bunjil’s body represents him watching over and protecting us, its also a symbol of guidance.
