Year 4/5/6 B

Newshound Entry 2023

Last week we submitted our Castlemaine Mail Newshound entry for 2023! We wrote about the upcoming production, literacy in 4/5/6,  our bushrangers incursion, SRC, our grade 6 legacy project and some school interviews. Thank you to Pema, Jet, Quinn and Gracie for their excellent work on this project! It looks fantabulous!

Human Body Systems

As part of our health inquiry, we have been learning about human body systems! We have investigated the nervous system, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the circulatory system, the excretory system and the lymphatic (immune) system. We have examined our the nervous system and its divisions, such as the brain and spinal cord (CNS), and somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system (PNS).

On Wednesday this week we learnt all about the circulatory system! We looked at the function, purpose and key features of this system, before attempting to keep up with the heart's impressive 5L of blood pumping per minute (we converted 1.3 gallons of blood to litres by knowing that 1 gallon = 3.785L) by trying to pump 5L of water in 1 minute. Then, we used a map of the cardiovascular system to represent the arteries and veins in the body.

Attempting to pump water as quickly and efficiently as the heart pumps blood!
