Grade 5 & 6

Ms Lupa, Miss Eade & Mrs Trewick

In literacy we have continued our poetry exploration. Students have now added an Ode, a limerick, a ballad and an alliteration to their anthology (collection of poems). We have also focused on refining our summarising skills through whole group activities and small group work. Miss Eade’s class have been making the most out of the sunshine by completing some writing outside.

In maths we recently finished our measurement unit. Students enjoyed the hands-on component of exploring length, perimeter, area, volume and capacity. We have now begun our data collection and representation unit. This will involve the collection of various forms of data and its representation as different graphs. Students will also interpret and analyse their graphs and graphs made by others. For this unit we recently walked to the bridge to collect data regarding the cars that crossed the bridge. This will be used for an assignment.

In Inquiry we have been learning about scientific discoveries. We have explored the size of the universe and the comparison of planets to other objects through interactive websites. Students have recently started an assignment where they are researching each of the planets. They will then be able to construct a 3D model of their chosen planet using paper mache’. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

This week is Science week and we had visitors from Twisted Science on Monday come to visit. Here, we learnt about liquids, solids and gases. It was very entertaining.

In Religion, students have recently presented their assignments on the Creation Story. It was amazing to see the different creative styles that the groups used to present their creation stories. We saw hand drawn picture story books, slideshows and keynotes.

Waranga Athletics

Last Thursday we headed to an athletics carnival in Kyabram. This was the first time we had been to this event. Students had a blast participating in the events with children from other schools. Everyone showed outstanding sportsmanship skills throughout the day whilst also trying their best in each of the events. Well done!
