Senior School News

As we find ourselves well past the midpoint of Term 3, the momentum of our educational journey shows no signs of slowing down. It's been a dynamic and engaging period, filled with remarkable achievements and enriching experiences for our students. Let's delve into the highlights of the past weeks.

Book Week: Read, Grow, Inspire.

This week was dedicated to the celebration of Book Week, and it was heartening to witness the creativity and dedication that our students poured into their costumes. The spirit of literary exploration was truly alive, and we commend each participant for their imaginative contributions.

English - Debating & Class novel

Within our English curriculum, students have been dedicatedly mastering spelling, morphology, writing syntax, and comprehension. To enhance the learning experience, we've combined fluency and comprehension sessions through our class novel, Tyenna. The application of learned skills in morphology and writing syntax has been vividly demonstrated in our Friday Pobble writing exercises. Further enriching our English program, our Year 5 students have embraced public speaking, while our Year 6 students engaged in invigorating debates. The debating program recently concluded with an enthralling grand finale. We applaud the winners of Best Debater, Best Off the Cuff, and Most Improved awards from each grade 6 class:

  • Best Debater: Luisa Branson (6T), Millie Bonke (6M)
  • Best Off the Cuff: Monique Brady (6M), Levi Stevenson (6T)
  • Most Improved: Thomas Brown (6M) , Angus Keating (6T)

Our Grade 5 students are eagerly anticipating their final public speaking session next week. Kudos to all participants for your remarkable dedication and growth.

Exploring the Cosmos in Topic

In our Topic classes, the wonders of the cosmos have captured our imagination during the first unit of Term 3. We embarked on an exciting journey through space, delving into the intricacies of our solar system. Our exploration encompassed the varying planets, their relative sizes and distances, the length of planetary years, and the vital significance of space exploration itself. Transitioning into the second unit of the term, our focus has shifted to the compelling realm of Natural Disasters, commencing with an in-depth study of earthquakes – their causes and far-reaching impacts.

Decimals Mastery in Mathematics

Mathematics classes have been immersed in the realm of decimals. After laying a strong foundation in our respective classes, the past week has seen us engaging in collaborative catch groups. This approach enables us to cater to individual learning needs while fostering cooperation among students of varied abilities. The students are enthusiastically embracing this approach, relishing the opportunity to collaborate with peers from different classes.

Community Engagement: Sacred Heart Sleepout 2023

A special mention goes to our Grade 6 students who have successfully secured participation in the 2023 Sacred Heart Sleep out. This commendable initiative is a fundraising endeavour organised by our Grade 6 cohort. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for St. Vincent de Paul, supporting Australia's homeless population. The Sleep out will take place on October 5th in Term 4. Stay tuned for upcoming fundraising activities as we rally together for this noble cause.

Upcoming Endeavors and Athletics

We extend our best wishes to all Sacred Heart students participating in the Dendy athletics event on August 25th. Your dedication and effort are sure to make us proud. Remember, "Victory isn't defined by wins or losses. It is defined by effort. If you can truthfully say, 'I did the best I could, I gave everything I had,' then you're a winner."

As we conclude this update, we look forward to the continued growth and achievements of our students.

Until next time,
