The recent College musical production truly showcased the remarkable spirit of our boarding community, with an impressive number of both full-time and casual boarders taking centre stage and working tirelessly behind the scenes.
Our Gap Year student, Honor Gibbons, provided exceptional backstage support, helping to bring Mamma Mia! to life. From lead characters to backstage crew and musicians, our boarders demonstrated their commitment to excellence. I was so impressed by the high standard of performance and the courage of our boarders in the younger year levels who were participating for the first time. Well done to all of our boarders involved!
We were also delighted to receive an email from a very proud grandmother, expressing how the College has helped her granddaughter truly shine - reflecting the pride evident in our community last week.
This sense of community extends far beyond the performing arts. Our boarders consistently demonstrate their sensitivity to serving others and showing kindness throughout the wider community.
Recently, a member of the public called the College specifically to acknowledge the assistance provided by one of our boarders when he spilt coffee – a testament to the character of our students and the instinct of simply helping others. Well done, Sarah.
Our boarding staff share this immense pride, witnessing daily how our boarders thrive in their endeavours.
Special recognition goes to this week's Boarders of the Week – Alison, Naomi and Nathan – who generously assisted Di in the Equestrian centre with painting poles, emphasising the service-oriented culture that defines our boarding community.
Our sense of community, sisterhood and brotherhood has also been highlighted this week, with a few boarders sustaining injuries through sport. The genuine comments and concern about how they are faring underscores just how close our boarders are with each other – they are not just friends, they are lifelong mates.
The leadership applications from our Year 11s for positions in 2026 have been inspiring to read. The enormous impact boarding has upon their lives, and their desire to further build upon the work this year.
Their reflections are deeply moving, with stories mentioning "I wouldn't be the person I am today without boarding," and "boarding has helped me know who I am."
Many speak of how "working through challenges early on in boarding made me stronger and more resilient”, and “I look forward to building stronger connections between year levels".
These applications demonstrate not only their personal growth but their commitment to nurturing the same transformative experience for future boarders.
Our safe and caring boarding environment continually makes me proud.
Each Wednesday afternoon, our boarders have street leave. Not only is this a great time to grab your favourite snacks or takeaway, but it is also a good time to simply ‘hang out’ as teenagers do.
Whether grabbing a bite to eat, running important errands, or just shopping around, boarders find this time a good mid-week break from their after-school routine. With the bus picking them up in town, it is an easy return to the boarding house.
