Next Week is Book Week. A time to celebrate the written word and the magic of storytelling. The theme for the 2025 Children's Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure!’. This theme, chosen by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA), encourages young readers to explore new worlds, embark on literary journeys, and celebrate the magic of storytelling through books. The ELC to Year 6 Book Week parade will be held on Friday morning at 9.15 am. Parents are invited to stay on after morning drop off and see the students and staff dressed as their favourite literary characters.
Physical Education
The students are working hard to develop their handball, drop punt and marking skills in our AFL unit. We have been using these skills in various games, including the AFL 9s style of play, for older students. This unit is complemented by a visit from AFL Junior Development coordinator Jono Box, who is running clinics in each P.E session this week and finally, our AFL 9s extravaganza at Pedrina Park today. Photos can be located on Pixevety.
Year 3
As part of our English unit, we have been reading the text ‘Off We Go Around Australia’ by Roland Harvey. We are enjoying learning about all the places across Australia that are mentioned in the book, many we haven’t heard of before. We have created 3D maps out of salt dough to map the journey travelled in the story.
We are on the lookout for shoeboxes to fill with our contributions to ‘Operation Christmas Child’. If you have any spare items at home, please send them to Mrs Povey at the Junior School Reception.
Junior School students are practising sentence building in Chinese. They enjoy this hand-on activity, where they cut and paste words into sentence order. Some students challenge themselves by writing in Pinyin (Chinese phonics system) and Hanzi (Simplified Chinese).
Congratulations to Year 5 student Amina Barrera who last weekend won a bronze medal in the Victoria Taekwondo Championships in Melbourne. A wonderful achievement - well done, Amina!
Congratulations to our Junior School Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey 7s teams, who were both victorious at the Greater Western Region Hockey 7s Finals on Tuesday at Pedrina Park. They played matches against Ballarat Grammar, Warrnambool East, St Arnaud and St Patrick's Nhill. Both teams now progress to the SSV State Finals on 11 September in Melbourne. Many thanks to Mr. Tim Cameron for coaching, Mrs. Louise Patterson for her coordination and convening skills, and College Parents’ and Friends’ members Zoe Price, Kate Pye and Bec Small for providing a canteen on the day.
This weekend’s GRHA matches.
A reminder that the College Hockey Dinner will be held on Saturday, 13 September in the Tim Murray Room at Senior Campus. Tickets are on sale, and they tend to sell out quickly.
A reminder that payment for the Year 3/4 camp to Cave Hill Creek is due by 1 September. Also, please request a medication consent form from reception if required.
