Principal Report

We are already in the second half of Term 3, with a lot happening at Oatlands PS at the moment. This week we have had Book Week, with a full range of activities for students to take part in, watch and read. Activities have included Perform Education with their Treasure Hunt show, Book Showcase competition, Picture Book Trail around our school, Mystery Readers after recess every day, The Great Booknic,  Book Showcase and open classrooms.

Such a rich and full book week program has given our students lots of engaging and motivating activities to be a part of. A huge thank you to Mrs Nicholas and helpers who have organised all of these events.

Books and reading are an essential part of a child’s education. There is a strong connection between the amount of reading children participate in (read to, read with and listened to) and their level of literacy later in life, how far they go with their education and their long-term vocation. The more children read and have access to appropriately levelled books the better readers they will be.

An essential part of this is helping your children foster a love for reading. Have a set time 5 days per week where you sit down with your child/ren and read with them, make it relaxing and enjoyable for both of you. Ask questions about the book, make the experience enjoyable and as a result you will be helping to foster a love for reading.

Thanks and happy reading!
