Performing Arts

Book Week!

Book Week activities have been in full swing! Students have been exploring their favourite stories by interviewing each other’s characters, sharing ideas, and showcasing their creativity. These activities have added an extra layer of excitement to the term and are helping students engage deeply with literature.

The excitement is building as we approach our school’s 100th-year celebration! Over the past few months, students have been hard at work preparing for “Dancing Through the Decades”, and we can’t wait for families to see the results. Each class is performing a unique dance from a different era, bringing history to life through music, movement, and style.

As the big day approaches, we look forward to welcoming parents, families, and friends to celebrate our school’s milestone. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the creativity, effort, and school spirit that make our community so special.

The countdown is on – we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Physical Education

Prep

During the last 2 PE sessions, the Preps have been practicing their skipping skills, along with building their soccer skills. Many of the students are now able to jump over the rope at least once, with a few managing 2-3 skips, which is fantastic!

During soccer lessons, the students have played games to further develop their dribbling, kicking, and trapping skills, with a focus on ball control.

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 students have been busily working on developing footwork skills through a variety of soccer activities. We have worked on dribbling by using different parts of our feet, heading, foot juggling with balloons, and worked on kicking skills by taking part in mock penalty shoot outs. Next week we will try and develop our passing skills. Perhaps we have some future Matildas or Socceroos!

Year 3 and 4

Students in 3/4 have been learning volleyball skills over the past few weeks. It has been tricky for them, seeing as though volleyball isn’t a sport many of them have had much experience with. It has been great watching them develop their digging, spiking, and setting skills through ongoing persistence and effort. I’m very proud of their growth and achievement.

They have also been working with a partner to develop a synchronised skipping routine, with many showing great creativity. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product in a couple of weeks.

Hoop Time

On a side note, next round Hooptime dates for the Future Stars Boys and Girls teams have been tentatively set for Wednesday 29th October. We are still waiting for the organisers to confirm this date and will provide further information when we receive it.

Year 5 and 6

Students from the upper classes have continued to warm up by skipping, and I can see considerable improvement in their skill level. We have also been working on our volleyball skills and applying them to minor games.

STEAM

In STEAM, each year level has been exploring artworks and experiments connected to their class era – from the 1920s through to the 2020s! Students have been learning science through history, while creating exciting art pieces to match.

This week, our Artist in Residence began working with us on our centenary mural, "Enjoying the Road to Success". Every student had the chance to paint a small section, leaving their mark on our school’s history. We warmly invite you to our 100th Anniversary Celebrations on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th September, when the mural will be officially revealed!
