Year 5 & 6

Around our level

What a wonderful week we had celebrating Book Week! On Monday, the school came alive with colour and creativity. Year 5/6 students dressed up as their favourite book characters - there were heroes, villains, fairy-tale characters, and so much more!

On Friday, we transformed our classrooms into cosy Book Tasting Cafes. With tablecloths, centrepieces, and even decorated “dinner plates,” students became book critics for the morning. Each table featured a “menu” of books from a different genre, including fiction, non-fiction, sport, picture story books, and so much more. Students sampled a variety of books, tasting each genre, before choosing one that they’d love to come back to later.

The highlight of Book Tasting morning was their last course… chocolate!

It was a fun, creative way to inspire a love of reading, and our students left feeling hungry for more books!

5/6A

I loved Book Week. My friends and I all dressed up as Minions and we all had bananas. For our costume we had a yellow t-shirt with overalls and gloves with a yellow beanie with some black lines at the top. I loved book tasting too. The room looked like a real restaurant and we got to decorate a plate on paper and our teacher even gave us a Freddo frog for dessert. It was such a great week, I am going to miss it when I leave.

Book Week was super fun and funny. On character dress up day,  some people were Minions and some were Harry Potter. I was Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. I had a good day that day. My favorite costume was the other Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

I loved book tasting because it was fun and I enjoyed it so much. We got to read all types of genres.

For Book Week, my friends dressed up as Minions, we were all Minions except for Giselle because she was Gru. Jade made a book for us, and everyone had bananas. Overall the day was super fun!

Book Week and Book Character Dress-up Day were lots of fun, but I wasn't at school for Book Tasting Day. Ollie D and I dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2. I had a great day, especially when we did a lap around the gym in our costumes during Assembly.

- Cooper H

I dressed up as the fish character from "SpongeBob" who always hurts his leg and shouts, “My leg!” I don’t really enjoy book tasting, but I put in my best effort. My favourite book I discovered was "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief".

- Ashlee R

I really liked reading the sports books because I enjoy playing sports. In the comedy section, I read a book called "Small Dog and Fat Cat", which had some really funny lines. The mystery books were okay—I didn’t mind them, but they weren’t my favourite. Fiction was a bit better than mystery, and I thought it was pretty good. Non-fiction wasn’t my favourite because I found it a little boring.

5/6C

I dressed up as Michael Jordan with a jersey, a black t- shirt with his own logo and black shorts with his logo.

- Ethan B

I'm commenting on book tasting and it was a very fun thing to do. We read books and reviewed them in a book tasting menu and the whole room was changed to look like a restaurant. Our teacher (Mrs Haysom) was the waitress and she came around every 10 to 15 minutes and changed what books were on our table as though we were having another course. Each time we reviewed a different genre. So overall this was a good experience.

- Danny C

On Book Tasting Day, we ‘tasted’ books from a series, adventure books, picture story books and non-fiction books and answered questions on our ‘menu’. We had music in the background and at one point we got up and danced. The tables had purple cloths on them, flowers, menus and paper dinner plates, which we had decorated. Overall, it was really fun and I liked reading and ‘tasting’ all the books.

- Ada D

For Book Week I went as Glinda from Wicked and my friend went as Elphaba. We went as two famous people from the book and  my other friends went as the Wiggles. It was a very fun day for everyone and there were lots of funny costumes and I can't wait for next year.
