Book Week
This year’s theme for Book Week was ‘Book an Adventure’! This year was the 80th anniversary of Children’s Book Week. The aim is to encourage young readers to explore imaginary worlds through books. Our students had a wonderful week exploring a variety of books. On Monday, we dressed up as our favourite book characters and we had a parade during our assembly. We then discussed our characters with our class.
On Tuesday, we participated in Book Tasting. Our classrooms were set up like a restaurant, with table clothes. We were given tasting notes so we could write down what we thought about our books. Each table had a different genre on it (eg. joke books, non fiction, graphic novels, picture story books etc). We read the books to ourselves, then we shared our favourite one with our group. At the end of the day, students were given a book mark and sour worms to remember the day!
Poetry
We finished our poetry unit with shape poems. These are poems that students write in the shape of their topic. We created poems about pumpkins, lolly pops, popcorn, tigers, and butterflies.
For Maths, we have been learning about subtraction, data, and graphs. We have learnt how to display data and how to sort data into categories. We are learning about how to interpret data from graphs.
In History, we have been learning about the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. We have been making posters about each decade.
