Book Week – What an Adventure!

Book Week Parade

Our Book Week Parade on Monday was an amazing event and continued the tradition of showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of Vermont Primary School students and families. Students came dressed as a wide range of book characters, with some truly impressive and imaginative costumes on display.

A big thank you goes to the parents and carers who helped make the costumes possible — your support and effort really showed.

The parade was hosted by ourLibrary Leaders Chloe and Eirini, who did a great job keeping everything running smoothly. It was a fantastic way to begin Book Week and set the tone for the week’s celebrations.

Page-Turners in Peculiar Places

The Page-Turners in Peculiar Places challenge was a big success! Classes enjoyed watching the videos during the week, which featured students reading in unusual or creative locations. Staff also joined in, with a few surprise appearances.

Thank you to the families who supported their children by filming and sending in videos. This activity added a lot of fun to Book Week and was a very memorable event.

Author Visit – Mark Wilson

This year we were fortunate to have Mark Wilson, award-winning author and illustrator, visit VPS. Mark spoke to students about his writing process, where his ideas come from, and how he combines text and illustrations to tell a story. He also shared some of his drawing techniques, which was a big hit with students.

You might like to encourage your child to explore some of Mark’s books. Often, after meeting an author, students are especially motivated to read their stories.

The Great VPS Book Swap

On Thursday, we held the Great VPS Book Swap. Students brought in books from home and were able to select something new to take away. The variety of books available meant there was something for everyone, from picture books to novels. It was especially pleasing to see so many students sitting down straight away to start reading their new books.

Friday afternoon was the Parent Book Swap, which was held outside the office. While fewer books were exchanged compared to the student event, the afternoon tea organised by the Community Network was very popular. Parents enjoyed the chance to share a cup of tea or coffee, catch up with one another, and pick up a new read. Thank you to the Community Network for supporting this event and helping to create such a welcoming atmosphere.
