Year 5 Market Day
Well done to Elijah (5SD) and Imogen (5KY) for sharing about our Market Day at assembly on Monday. It was huge success, raising $2,736.24 for the charity, Youth of the Streets. What an amazing achievement by everyone!! Congratulations to all Year 5 students.
Production
Production practise is in full swing at school. It's been fantastic to see scenes coming together, as well as chorus songs! Here are important dates for students (and parents) to know, as the night is in less than 4 weeks!
Dress Rehearsal: Wednesday 10th September (at school during school hours).
Tech Rehearsal: Tuesday 16th September (during school hours at Crossways).
Year 3 and 5 Performance Night: Tuesday 16th September (Start time approximately 7pm at Crossways).
For homework, students have been asked to practise their lines and chorus songs over the next block (Mathletics and 2 hours of reading are still expected). Whilst we are doing a lot of practise at school, practising at home is key, so please encourage and support your child so that they are ready to go for the night. We gave out the lyrics for our chorus songs on Tuesday, as well as a sheet indicating what your child needs to wear on the night if they are performing a chorus song (this was given out last week). If your child has a speaking role, they have been in communication with Mr. Condron about what costume they need to wear and will find out very soon.
Students work
In literacy, students have been focusing on using visualisation as a reading technique. They were asked to select a section from a text and represent the mental image they made through a drawing.
In Inquiry, students have been discussing and researching the effects of colonisation on both British and Indigenous peoples. We have had some amazing discussions around this important historical part of Australia's history, and students have asked some very insightful questions. We have also looked at how introduced species had an impact on native flora and fauna.
