Book Week
State Library Author Meet
As part of Book Week, Grade 4 students were lucky enough to take part in a webinar by the State Library from the author, Andy Griffiths. Andy explained the creative process behind his famous ‘Treehouse’ series and introduced us to his latest book, ‘You and Me and the Peanut Butter Beast’. He also gave us some tips for our own writing, including ‘if something bad is happening in your story, make it worse!’. Students had to make decisions about what they would do if they were falling down a never-ending hole and got to design their own idea for a ‘You and Me…’ book. We’re sure we will see some incredible story ideas in the coming weeks!
Author Visit – Mark Wilson
Later in the week, students participated in a whole-school author visit from Mark Wilson. During the incursion, students listened as Mark explained how he draws inspiration from real-life experiences and the people he has met. He also shared that writing involves lots of editing and drafting before publishing the final piece. For the final activity, Mark challenged the students to follow a set of instructions on how to draw an animal. While drawing, the students had the chance to guess what the animal might be.
Father’s Day Lunch and Stall
As we approach September, students are getting ready to celebrate Father’s Day. The Father’s Day Stall will be held next week on either Wednesday, 3rd September, or Thursday, 4th September. Students can bring some money, as well as a bag to carry their items home.
In addition, the Father’s Day Lunch will take place on Monday, 1st September, from 12:30 PM to 1:10 PM, and we welcome families to come along and celebrate with our students.
Mad About Science Incursion
Today, two of the Year 4 classes took part in their Mad About Science incursion. The students were enthusiastic and amazed by the experiments, and they were eager to learn more about the human body. Here are some photos:
School Production
Our school production is just around the corner! Students will take part in a dress rehearsal at school on Thursday, 11th September, to make sure everything is ready for the big night. The Year 4 and 6performance will be held on Wednesday, 17th September, and we are excited to see all the hard work and practice come to life on stage.
In the classroom:
English
This week, students have been working on making thoughtful word choices to make their writing more powerful and engaging. They explored how to use figurative language such as similes, metaphors, and personification, along with strong adjectives and verbs to paint vivid pictures for the reader.
Maths
In Maths, students have begun exploring decimals by learning about tenths. They used bundles of straws to create tenths and then represented these on a number line that showed one whole. This hands-on activity helped students see the connection between fractions and decimals in a fun and practical way.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, students have been learning about the respiratory system and how our lungs work. To see this in action, they created a model of lungs using balloons and straws. By blowing into the straws, students were able to watch the balloons inflate, helping them understand how air moves in and out of our lungs when we breathe.
