Placing money in a named purse, wallet or zip-lock bag is recommended and please don't send more than $20 to school please.
Our classes are going to visit the stall on the following days:
Our production is fast approaching and students are showing more confidence with their singing and dancing practises. We will be having a full dress rehearsal at school on Wednesday 10th September, and then our big night is on Tuesday 16th September. The show is at approximately 7pm at Crossways.
If you are unsure about your child's costume requirements, please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible.
Last week we celebrated Book Week, starting with our dress ups and parade on Monday. There were some great costumes and the children enjoyed talking about their favourite book characters. On Thursday, we heard from author/illustrator Mark Wilson and got some insight into his writing process. It was interesting to hear how a story about the goldfields can come to life from an item as small as a locket.
On Wednesday, the Year 3s were keen to participate in our 'Forces in Motion' incursion. Elliot kept the students engaged as they first explored the concepts of torque, momentum, tension and inertia through spinning different styles of fidget spinners and timing which one could spin the longest! Students were then introduced to the force of Magnetism - the positive and negative poles and their effects on electrons. Students were challenged to move a toy train around a track without the large magnet touching the train. This was much more difficult than it sounded! Special thanks to Elliot for visiting Vermont Primary and providing students with such an engaging hour and to Mrs Moore for organising his visit.
Literacy:
A fun literacy lesson this fortnight was the challenge to create an alphabet of onomatopoeia! Can you think of a sound word for every letter?!
A - Aachoo!
B - Bam!
C - Crash!
Writing:
We have continued our focus on the trait of 'Word Choice' in our Writing lessons and explored more poetry, descriptive writing and interesting vocabulary. Our Year 3 students have continued to impress us with some of their expressive writing pieces
Maths:
We have delved further into division, with some interesting lessons occurring around the use of the area model and using money as a material to aid with solving division problems.
Angles is a new topic we have begun to look into, exploring the difference between right, acute and obtuse angles, and practising using a protractor to measure the degrees of an angle. We went on an Angles Scavenger Hunt around the classroom in search of these different types of angles.
