JUNIOR School Update

Dear Parents/Carers and Students
It has been a busy and exciting time in the Junior School. A huge congratulations to all of our students who participated in this year’s school production of Chicago. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, your talent, commitment and teamwork were outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure to come and watch the amazing talent on display. Well done to everyone involved.
We are also thrilled to celebrate the success of our Year 8 Netball and Football teams, who have both qualified for the State Finals. This is an incredible achievement and a fantastic representation of our school pillar of Excellence.
It has been wonderful to see so many of our students challenging themselves in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Opportunities like these allow students to extend their learning and showcase their skills on a national stage.
We hope you have had a chance to access and reflect on your child’s Year 7 NAPLAN Individual Student Report (distributed via Compass > Reports). These reports provide valuable insights into each student’s achievement in literacy and numeracy and can be considered alongside feedback from teachers provided through Compass Learning Tasks to reflect on growth and achievement, as well as next steps in learning. In teaching teams, we are reviewing the data to provide targeted support to students, as well as using question-level analysis to inform curriculum planning moving forward.
Keep an eye out for Term 3 Progress Reports, which will be published on Compass on Tuesday 2 September. These reports give students a valuable chance to reflect on how their semester has begun, using teacher feedback about learning behaviours to further enhance their readiness to learn in all subjects. We also look forward to connecting with many families during the upcoming Parent Student Teacher Conferences on Tuesday 9 September.
We were fortunate to welcome author Jack Heath to our school on Monday 18 August to present to our Year 7 and 8 students for Book Week. A little about Jack: he’s the author of some gripping young adult and adult thrillers, with a knack for keeping readers on the edge of their seats. He last visited us in 2011 and was a massive hit — and was just as engaging this year! Jack’s novels are available for students to borrow in the Junior Resource Centre. Thank you to Mrs Michelle Snooks and our Library team for organising this opportunity for our students.
Well done to our Training Band for their impressive debut performance at the Winter Music Concert on Thursday 21 August! The students performed with confidence and enthusiasm, showcasing the skills they have been developing since beginning to learn their instruments earlier this year. For many, this was their first time performing on stage in front of an audience, and they certainly rose to the occasion! Thank you to our dedicated Music staff for their guidance and support, and to families in the audience for encouraging our young musicians.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming Year 8 History incursions, which will provide rich, hands-on learning experiences for our students.
Thank you to Mrs Jess Knights for stepping into the role of Acting Year Level Coordinator (Year 7) for the first five weeks of Term 3 while Ms Catherine Kyriakos was on leave. We thank Mrs Knights for her support of students, staff and families during this time, and warmly welcome Ms Kyriakos back to the team from Monday 25 August until the end of the semester!
