Principal's Report

I want to begin by thanking our families for supporting last fortnight's Curriculum Day. This important professional learning time allowed our staff to focus in on our strategic goals around explicit literacy instruction, with a particular emphasis on structured literacy and the teaching of reading. By continuing to strengthen these evidence-based practices in areas such as phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, we are ensuring every student has the support they need to become a confident, capable reader.
Book Week took centre stage across the school last Friday, and the Book Week Parade was a raging success. Students proudly dressed as their favourite characters, celebrating the joy of reading and showing off their creativity. It was wonderful to see families joining in the fun and cheering the students on at the parade. Book Week is a fantastic reminder of how stories can inspire, connect and spark curiosity—and this year was no exception. We know it can be quite a task making and/or purchasing costumes and really appreciate your support of this event.
Our Parent Teacher Interviews we held last Thursday and provided an important opportunity for families and teachers to connect, reflect on progress, and set learning goals together. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped strengthen the vital partnership between home and school.
Also last Thursday, we had our Senior Girls AFL Team compete at the State Finals. Reaching this level is an outstanding achievement, and the team played brilliantly across the day. Though we did not win, the winning team of the tournament only beat us one goal. I am incredibly proud of the girls who not only showed great skill but also great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Our Grade 3/4 excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo took place yesterday and offered students an exciting chance to explore diverse habitats and animals from around the world, linking directly to their classroom learning about conservation. This was the first visit to the zoo for some of the students and a returning visit after many years for others. As expected the safari bus was a highlight and luckily for the students the animals were quite active and social. A huge thank you to the Grade 3 and 4 Teachers, along with all of our parent volunteers who came along to help for the day.
Looking ahead, we have our Grade 5 and 6 students heading to camp on Monday and I am excited to be joining them. Upon our return we have District Athletics on Thursday and then our Father’s Day Breakfast will be held on Friday 5th from 7:30–9:00am, and we can’t wait to welcome dads, grandads, carers and special friends to join us. The Father’s Day Stall will also be running on Friday, giving students the opportunity to purchase a special gift throughout the day. If you are in a position to help at the Breakfast or Stall please let us know via our FATHERS DAY VOLUNTEERS form.
And of course, there’s heaps happening in our classrooms – I encourage you to read the Grade level articles in this newsletter to see the great learning and creative work our students have been doing.
