Year 4/5 Mathematics- Exploring Angles

 

In Mathematics, our Year 4/5 students have been exploring the fascinating world of angles. They have learnt that angles are a measure of turn, with right angles serving as a useful reference point for comparison. Using angle names such as acute, obtuse, straight angle, reflex, and revolution, students have been estimating and comparing angles and recognising how each relates to a right angle.

Building on their prior knowledge, students revisited right angles, which can be easily spotted in anything square or rectangular. From there, students explored how smaller turns create acute angles and larger turns create obtuse angles. By comparing angles to right angles, they have been able to identify and name different angles found in their everyday environment. To assist with this, students used right-angle templates during their investigations as you can see in the photos below.
