Community Art Centre Workshop

In conjunction with our HoL partnership with Westvale Community Centre, students were provided with the opportunity to participate in a street art workshop at the Hunt Club & Community Art Centre in Deer Park. We were once again lucky enough to secure Lukas Kasper, an up and coming local street artist. Students completed some amazing work and would like to say a big thank you to Lukas for providing his time and expertise.

Hol 2023

This year in Hands on Learning (HoL), we have had 8 students participate in the program.

With the help of our volunteer Ian, who is with us from recess to lunch. We teach them how to read a measuring tape, use a drill, hammer and tell the difference between a screw and a nail.

We make planter boxes, picnic tables, build a timber wall, and tend to our veggie garden. We have grown various veggies to eat, sell, or take home.

The students enjoyed cooking lunch and going to the Bunnings for a DIY with Dee, the Bunnings organiser who organises the projects we do. It is always an enjoyable day.

A special thank you to everybody who has supported us along the way. Great work from all the students involved. I thoroughly have enjoyed working with you all.

Monica

Hi my name is Jess. I've been in Hands on Learning for a year, and I like HoL, and I appreciate Monica for all she does for HoL. I think it would be great for people that are thinking about going into trade.

I've had an amazing experience at Hands on Learning. I got to learn various life skills such as learning how to use a drill and building things. There is a fair bit of gardening activities we got to do as well, which I found very fun. Monica is also a great person to be around, and I appreciate what she does for us. My overall experience in Hands on Learning has been great, and I would definitely recommend it to people who are more hands on.

I have learned that you can make nice things with scraps. I have also learned how to use a drill, a saw, a screwdriver and more. I have had a great time here in Hands on Learning, and I recommend it.

In HoL this year, I have learnt to use a wide range of tools, consisting of power drills, saws, hammers, power saws and engravers. Overall this year in HoL has been good and has helped me learn a lot.
