William Rubensohn Scholarship Visit

The William Rubensohn Foundation offers a scholarship program to assist students who are motivated to apply themselves to their studies and wish to succeed at school.

The scholarship program supports students from Year 9 - Year 12. This week some of our recipients were lucky enough to have a visit from  Jack & Cherry from the Foundation.

Stage 4 Science

Stage 4 Science finished of their topic on Rocks and Mining this week, by undertaking some cookie mining.  Students were tasked with removing choc chip bits from cookies, they could then use the choc chip bits to purchase more cookie sites, larger areas and better equipment.  Students were also mined for going beyond the limits of their mining plot.

Year 8 Technology Mandatory

Students in Year 8 are currently working on their Food Van Task. As part of the task students have followed the design process to create their own unique logo and van design using photoshop, their menu was designed on canva.

Students were required to choose a signature food dish to match their Food Van, create a single serve recipe and cost out the item.

During week 7 students produced a Mexican stuffed potato as an example of a food van dish which would allow for a significant amount of preparation to be completed before the service period. Year 8 are to be commended on their hard work throughout this project.

Year 7 Technology Mandatory

Students completed the final stage of the design process by testing their drag cars. Students tested the car's ability to drive straight, the top speed and acceleration. Some students' cars required ongoing repairs to wheels and wings. The class moved on to coding this term. Students are currently using the Edison robots to learn how to code using block, scratch and py software.

Exploring Early Childhood

Students have been studying a unit about starting school. As part of the unit of work students observed the kindy students and assisted with the kindy start program. The class has created some table name badges, craft activities, sewn a bucket hat for sun safety and created a healthy lunch box.

Year 12 Textiles

The class is currently researching and planning possible design ideas for the Major Textiles Project. As part of this students are required to choose a variety of inspiration and explain how they are going to creatively weave this into their textiles project. As a class we are learning skills around how to create a digital portfolio with a focus on layout and visual presentation.

Stage 5 Mathematics

Over the past few lessons, Stage 5 students have been working on a practical project that incorporates many mathematical elements learnt throughout the year. Students were tasked with planning and designing either a putt-putt course or a pump track that could be used by students at Boorowa Central School and the Boorowa Community. This project came about following the SRC’s plans to build something for all students to use near the school oval, and Max Galvin’s petition to have a pump track installed at the Boorowa Recreation Oval.

In mathematics lessons, students have chosen their project, created a mood board to show their design ideas, scouted and measured the proposed locations, and created scale drawings of the areas. Year 9 students have also created a survey that will gather statistical data on the need and want for these designs in our community. Future lessons hope to have students design their projects in detail with scaled measurements and models created to demonstrate their efforts. It is exciting to see what these students produce for our school and the greater community.

9/10 Visual Art Lino Printing

9/10 Visual Art are completing a lino printing unit with an underwater theme.

Students designed their lino tiles, then they cut and printed the tiles.

All students completed this task to the highest standard and their tiles demonstrate the skill of these students.

Celebrating Agricultural Achievements: A Year of Growth

As we reflect on the year that's passing, we're excited to share the wonderful progress made in our Agriculture program. Thanks to the hard work of the Stage 5 Agriculture and STEM class, farm assistants, general assistants, and the vision of our teachers, along with the support of Mr. Jones, our agricultural plot has seen significant improvements.

The new modern shed is now a hub of safety and efficiency, providing secure storage for machinery, chemicals, and equipment. With a working shearing plant and upgraded sheep yards, complete with weighing scales, our facilities are more functional than ever.

Sustainability has been a key focus, and we're proud to have implemented a hydroponic setup and a practical irrigation system for our garden beds and greenhouse.

The rainwater collected off the sheds, stored in on-site tanks, is now an integral part of our eco-friendly approach.

Looking forward to 2024, our plans include completing the undercover ag classroom within the shed. This space will be equipped with benches and stools, offering students an immersive learning environment.

We're also excited about upcoming additions, such as an aquaponic setup and the creation of an Australian native edible garden section. These initiatives aim to raise awareness of native foods and culture within our community.

In the coming year, we're exploring opportunities for students to participate in wether and cattle competitions, providing valuable industry exposure. Additionally, the VET Primary Industries program will be reintroduced in 2024, and we're reaching out to local farms for support. If you can assist with farm visits or practical exercises, your involvement will be greatly appreciated.

As we look ahead to an exciting 2024, we extend our thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success of our Agriculture Department. Together, we're cultivating knowledge and a passion for agriculture.
