Well, what a year it has been!!
Firstly, congratulations must go to the class of 2023. What a fantastic achievement Year 12 on finishing your six years of high school and completing your HSC. You have been such an amazing group of individuals and you have all earned a well-deserved break. No doubt everyone had a fantastic night at the formal and I look forward to hearing about your HSC results later in the term. A huge thank you must go to Miss Fitzgerald for all her hard work and dedication that she has provided Year 12 over the last two years. From the weekly year meetings, daily google classroom messages, mentoring, guidance and support to organising a memorable formal, Miss Fitzgerald has been instrumental in the success of Year 12, and I would like to offer my thanks for her efforts in this role.
Year 10 have also had a vibrant and busy term. Over the last few weeks, Year 10 have undertaken the Stage 6 Preparation Program. During Week 8, Year 10 had their taster week, where students were able to undertake their Year 11 subject pattern for one week. This provided students an opportunity to meet their Stage 6 teachers, develop an understanding of what is involved with each course and have a taste of what it is going to be like as a Year 11 student. In Week 9 and 10, students participated in a range of external activities and excursions. These included the following:
Lemon Car: An educational experience on how to be responsible for owning and maintaining a car.
Edrolo: An interactive presentation on study resources for Stage 6.
Elevate Education: A presentation of study skills and revision habits for Stage 6 courses.
Core of Life: NSW Health presented evidence-based health promotion/early intervention, relationships and reproductive health education program.
Mind Your Mates: An engaging Mental Health support and Wellbeing workshop.
Red Frogs: Safe partying presentation.
RYDA: Road safety workshop and driver awareness experience at Wyong racecourse.
PBL: Make a Movie - students have been asked to create their own short film.
In addition to these incursions, students also attended Terrigal Beach for a fun water safety day while also having a choice on the elective day to select from one of the four options: SUP and Kayaking at Avoca Lagoon, Laser Tag/Clip and Climb, Chef for Day or a Music Workshop.
A huge thanks must go to all the staff that supported the program, in particular Mrs Hogan (Year 10 Year Adviser) for all of her work behind the scenes making the prep program a success.
Thanks, must also go to Miss Sanki (Year 8 Year Adviser) for all of her support to the Year 8 year group this year. Miss Sanki has guided Year 8 through the experiences and challenges that they have faced this year and she is to be congratulated for that. Year 8 have been able to make their subject choices for 2024 and we look forward to seeing them thrive next year in Stage 5 Elective choices.
Finally, we have also had Orientation Day for Year 7 2024. This was a fantastic opportunity to get to know our new Year 7 cohort as they make the transition from Year 6. Henry Kendall High School is a fantastic school, and I am sure our new Year 7’s will enjoy their new school next year. A huge thanks must also go to Mrs Kostalas for all the work she has done in ensuring that our new Year 7 feel supported. I am sure she is as excited as they are.
I would like to wish all the Henry Kendall community a happy and safe holiday. Have a well-deserved break and I look forward to working with all of the students and families again in 2024.
