Bronnies Op Shop

What a great success with the students raising just over $400 for Coast Shelter on the Central Coast. As the name suggests the students in the Special Education Center run an op shop. The process includes sorting, checking, sizing, presenting on racks and pricing the clothing. On the day the students sell the items and handle the transactions. The day is always well received by the other students in our school and I am sure their parents are often surprised by their purchases when they wear them home.

Community Access

This term community access has allowed our students to experience many coastal walks, parks and beaches around our neighbourhood. We have also visited Gosford Golf Club and used their virtual Golf range. Blair also got to try out the new standing electric wheel chair they have. We have also spotted whales returning to the Antarctic and even spoke with some bikers.

Ten Pin Bowling

The Inclusive school sports unit ran an interschool competition for students with disabilities on the coast. Henry Kendall High School was represented by Maddox Carta, Jet Black, Patrick 10 pin bowling   Ten Pin Bowling Maddox Jet and Patrick Stevens and Mark Darragh. Although not the winners on the day our team did the school proud and should be proud of their efforts.

Special Education SRC News

Jet Black, Jared Rosenkowitz and Emily Andrews are our newly elected SRC representatives for Special Education. Many of our students gave well written and delivered speeches. After a close count our three leaders were declared. Having representatives on the SRC gives the students of Special education a voice in the school. Theses students are great role models for our students.

State Athletics

Lateesha Mead, Marlon Rosales, Charlotte Gott, Nate Wilde and Joel Goncalves-Rose made it through to NSW Schools State Athletics…….(competing today)

Work Placements

Our senior students are strongly encouraged to participate in a work placement one day per week during the year. This allows to our students to experience a real work place and a real job. When our students transition to post school programs many of the are ready for mainstream employment with little or no support. We like to thank our local businesses who are willing to allow our students to work alongside them in various fields. Big thanks to Empire Bay Oysters who work with Curtis Chapman, Orana Aged Care who work with Lateesha Mead and Faith Drylie, Golden Tips hairdressing that work with Charlotte Gott, Worthington BMW and Ducati who work with Jared Rosenkowwitz and Cheeky Charlies Café who work with Marlon Rosales.

Photos to come.

Tumbi Disco

Tumbi Umbi Secondary College invited us again to the Tumbi Disco on Wednesday 13 September at Tuggerah Lake Secondary College, Tumbi Umbi. What a fabulous day for a disco. Lots of crazy hair and hats and awesome dance moves plus many smiles and laughter. Thank you Tumbi Umbi for another great disco!

As we come to a close of another hectic year in Special Education, we would like to congratulate all of our students for all of their achievements no matter how great or small. As they say “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”, and this is always the case in Special Education.

Some stand out successes this term include the School formal, where our students frocked and suited up for a great night at the Crowne plaza with their mainstream peers. Fun times were had by all and the staff felt an immense pride of being able to see you at your last school function.

Our year 10 students have just returned from The Great Aussie Bush Camp ready to start year 11 next year. Tired and dirty but they survived and had a wonderful 3 days bonding and learning a few things about themselves along the way.
