English Faculty

It has been another productive term in the English faculty, with all year groups completing high quality learning experiences.

Our new Year 12 students have started their HSC courses with enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see many students reading their prescribed text during the study breaks in and around the school. The classes have been preparing well for their first assessment task in Week 10. It is important that Year 12 students use the summer holidays to reflect on the first unit of work, and read their texts for their upcoming modules.

The English faculty was impressed with the positive attitude and engagement displayed by Year 10 during the Taster Lesson week for the Stage 6 Preparation Program. Year 10 students were provided with an opportunity to experience English Advanced, Standard and Studies style lessons. They are now encouraged to reflect on their English needs and decide which course suits them best.

It’s been an exciting year for English extracurricular activities. Each of our debating teams experienced success throughout the Premier’s Debating Competition – with one of our Stage 4 teams making it through to the regional finals! Our debaters for this year were:

Year 7: Etain Cardno and Charlotte Young

Year 8: Tycen Bedford, Ilicia Kartawidjaja, Samuel Whight, Emeliana Kimber, Kairavan Selvarajan and Aaron Shrestha

Year 9: Felix Sanford

Year 10: Lily Arendse, Lily Els, Leilani Gilham, Kiah Supple, Henry Bowie, Angus Potter, Pavani Pathak, Madeleine Parker, Sydney Andrews and Ethan Hull.

We look forward to another great year of debating in 2024!

This term saw the release of the second issue of the Bellbird Literary Magazine. Taking its

name from the bellbird on our school crest, the magazine is run by students and showcases a range of written and visual work from across the school. In this semester’s issue, you will find works of fiction, non-fiction and artistic expression which highlight the incredible talents we have here at the school. Congratulations to Miss Jackson and the editorial team on another fantastic publication.

We would like to thank the students and wider school community for their perseverance and commitment to learning this year. Have a happy and safe holiday break.

See you in 2024.
