Heads of House

Belle Prairie - Jeni Barlow

In the first year of the House system for Mt Alvernia College, Belle Prairie has shone brightly as we have lived our theme of using our BP Power for good. Individually and collectively, we have much to celebrate. Students have embraced, endeavoured and celebrated the rich diversity and talents within our House as seen in 63 students receiving academic awards – and many of these students receiving multiple awards - Belle Prairie being awarded 2nd place in the Principal’s Reader’s Challenge and winning the Cultural Festival. Congratulations and thank you to every member of Belle Prairie (students, staff and support staff) who have challenged and supported each other, for unifying and growing our sprit and for wearing our purple with immense pride. It has been a truly fabulous journey of learning, connections and spirit and we have much to be grateful for.

Merry Christmas to our families and may the joy and wonder of the Christmas Season fill your hearts with love and hope. I look forward to see you all next year.

Greccio - Michelle Licina

Greccio’s House motto – Celebrate Life! – encapsulates the efforts of our staff and students in 2023.  Led by a committed group of seniors, we gave every interhouse activity our absolute best with a podium finish for interhouse participation across the six Houses.  The highlight would have to be winning the highly prized Battle of the Houses Trophy at Cultural Festival.  As the winners over the past four years, there are already hopes for bigger and bolder in 2024.  Our House students and staff have embedded the evidence-based practices of the best-selling book, The Resilience Project, into our daily lives. Gratitude, empathy and mindfulness are our focus areas.

It is why we are now known as the Greccio GEMs! Congratulations to everyone in Greccio who has created success for themselves in the areas of academics, sport, arts and everything in between.  It has been such an honour and pleasure to lead the House so ably supported by our nine Homeroom Mentor Teachers. Safe holidays and travels and bring on 2024!

Perugia - Erin Moffat

As we reflect on the year that was, there have been many Perugia P.R.O.U.D moments of 2023 to remember. Highlighting our achievements; Swimming Champions, we demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, bringing glory to Perugia in our first House event. Additionally, we also proudly took out the overall House Cup for 2023, showcasing outstanding teamwork, participation, and sportsmanship. Overall, embracing a dynamic approach, we thrived in the "we, not me" mentality. Looking forward to carrying this momentum into 2024, celebrating our Perugia Proud moments and building upon them for even greater accomplishments.

Rieti -Courtney Daniec

For the girls in red this year it was all about rising up to the challenge and lifting each other up. Moving to the traditional house structure I laid out the challenge of attendance and participation for all events on our College calendar. I can proudly say we achieved this by winning the Jenifer Letizia Participation cup for the year. Additionally we took home the trophy for cross country and athletics and also had 52 academic award winners throughout the year.  In the year of 2023 Rieti we were spirit filled, successful and connected.

Spoleto - Chanel Humphries

Spoleto has taken this year by storm and as a House, committed to showing up, standing up and speaking out in all of our pursuits. As we finish 2023 it is clear that every single student in Spoleto has embodied SPARK in some way and that our spirit has left a mark on those around us. We have seen a breadth of servant leaders and have been privileged to watch the development of authentic relationships amongst the house. Spoleto students should be proud of what they have accomplished, of how far they have come and it is my hope that they bring this pride with them into 2024, where I ask of them to be courageous.

Wishing all a wonderful holiday season that brings you time to relax and re-cooperate from a big year.

Villa Spada - Sacha Carney

The Villa Spada Year of 2023 has been a year filled with firsts, fortitude and flourishing, and now that the academic year draws to a close, we are finishing well. The Villa Spada call to ‘Reach Out’ has certainly been fulfilled and the Villa Spadans can be proud of the indelible mark they have made on the college community. At the beginning of the year I challenged each student to be their best and authentic self, so that they could be proud of their efforts and achievements. I am hopeful that as they head into the relaxation and recuperation of the holidays, they can feel a great sense of achievement.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday!
