Wominjeka to OSHC at Ivanhoe Primary School!

23/11/2023, Week 8, Term 4.

Wominjeka to OSHC at Ivanhoe Primary School!

We would like to begin by acknowledging the Wurrunjeri People of the Woi Wurrung people, past, present and future.

The custodians of the Birrarung Marr (Yarra River) and the land which we know, learn and play on, as Outside School Hours Care.

The Children's Program:

It's been super fun and busy! Playing, making decorations for the Fair and just relaxing after a big day at school!

F

air Day at the Caravan of Curry:

You are invited to come and hang out at our Outside School Hours Care,

"Caravan of Curry" this coming Saturday 25th of November.

Thanks so much to Rekha for all of her hard work, planning our menu and her amazing

'Home Cooking!' (5 Star, Michelin, restaurant, worthy!)

The following is what speciality dishes will be available to purchase on the day, then a quick interview I did with Rekha about what inspired her cooking and how she learned to cook.

  • Dhal (Red Lentil Curry)
  • Mixed Vegetable Curry (Peas, Potatoes and Carrots)
  • Kheema Matar (Lamb Mince Curry)
  • Samosa Puffs (Spiced Curry puffs) – Lexi, Sarah and Wendy, along with our OSHC students have done a great job making them under my guidance.
  • Limbu Pani (Lemon drink)
  • Fried Pappadums
  • Basmati rice

Interview with Rekha:

Lexi: What is your favourite spice?

Rekha: My favourite spice is Turmeric and ginger garlic paste.

Lexi: What is your favourite curry?

Rekha: Dhal Tadka, as I can cook it in different ways using different types of Dhals. (Lentils)

Lexi: What is your favourite food that your family used to have when you were little?

Rekha: My favourite family curry is Dhal Rice with Indian Style Pork stir fry.

(My Signature dish)

Lexi: When did you learn to cook?

Rekha: I learned to cook when I came to Australia as I had to do it on my own. (Before that I watched mum cook – She was our Master Chef)

Lexi: What do you enjoy most about cooking?

Rekha: I remember mum’s methods of adding different ingredients.

In my mum’s words, “Cook and serve as if you are cooking and serving for your family."

Thanks,

Rekha

Rekha, you are a star!

Thanks so much for your dedication, you are an inspiration!!

Lexi

Thanks to Lisa too, for letting us borrow Rekha from the office for a day!                             Thanks to Emily for helping out at the school office so we could sneak Rekha out.

True team work and whole school connection!

Fair donations and please if you have any lemons, could we have some for our

Caravan of Curry, they are for a special Indian style lemon drink. 'Limbu Pani'

Final list of what we need for Fair Day,

  1. Parents, siblings, carers, other teachers or educators to help for 1 hour at the Caravan of Curry, sign up here at aftercare, there is a helpers list on the chalk board at Outside School Hours Care.
  2. Rice Cookers x 4
  3. Electric fry pans x 2
  4. Also, singers to sing at our 'Curry'a'Oke!' Like normal Karaoke but you have to use 'Curry' like alternatives to the words in the song. We were just going to use you-tube and our big TV to refer to. Maybe has anyone a karaoke machine we could borrow?
  5. Eskies.

Sustainability:

Over the coming couple of months I will be preparing the soil to do some planting in our veggie garden for next term. If you have any old big pots that are tough enough for school, please see myself as we want to put them around our entrance to make it look nice and also we can plant herbs for our pizzas or for families to take home.

See you soon everyone, at the FAIR!

Triganin!
