Tips for ATAR release day and School Leaver Toolkit

For those students finishing Year 12, Study Work Grow believes you should be judged on everything you’ve done and the person you’ve become, rather than one number. However, they know you may be worrying and nervous about receiving your Year 12 results so have put together these key tips for ATAR release day. Study Work Grow have also provided this handy School Leaver Toolkit as a starting point for setting out in life as an adult. It guides you on the steps to leaving school, planning study and post-school pathways (including checklists on getting ready for uni or starting work), preparing to become an independent and where to find help.

REMINDER to Class of 2023 applying to tertiary courses

You need a Tax File Number (TFN) to enrol in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and to apply for a HELP loan. If you don’t have a TFN, you must prioritise getting this before end of year by going to Apply for a TFN for instructions on how to apply either online or by paper (depends on your circumstances and residency status).

UPDATE: VTAC information webinars for students and parents

VTAC have revised their webinar schedule to enhance the information in each presentation. The remaining two webinars for the year will run on Tuesday evenings at 6pm with the next webinar covering ATAR and results, and the final webinar covering the upcoming offer rounds. Anyone supporting a Year 12 student during the VTAC application period are encouraged to attend and can register at www.vtac.edu.au/events. If you can't make it, you can watch the recordings on VTAC's YouTube page.

Tertiary institution Change of Preference events and info services for Year 12s

Run by the tertiary institutions themselves, these events provide valuable information to guide Year 12s in finalising their tertiary course preferences. A list of Victorian change of preference support services run by tertiary institutions is now available on the VTAC website here. This support, available both in person and virtually, includes tours, hotlines, expos, webinars, one-on-one consultations and live chats. The below Change of Preference support VIC & UTAS 2023 document provides times and dates for VIC and UTAS tertiary institutions, whilst the Change of Preference Guide 2023 lists support available to students applying to study at universities Australia-wide in 2024. It is highly recommended that students speak with the tertiary institutions they are applying to so that they are fully informed about their course options and confident with their course preferences.
