Year 1 Encounter | Canning River Eco Centre

Acting Head of Primary, Mrs Fiona Shand

Our term of wonderful ‘Encounters and Events’ has continued with students enjoying many new opportunities and experiences.

Encounters

The Year 4s loved their scavenger hunt through the city and the experience of sleeping over at school.

Our Pre-Primary students enjoyed exploring the natural surroundings in Kings Park. Jumping and paddling in the creek was a real highlight.

Year 1 students went to Canning River Eco Education Centre. They enjoyed the opportunity to be Scientists and marking areas where they found evidence of animals in the environment.

This week, our Year 3s visited Woodman Point. They challenged themselves on the flying fox, learnt surf life saving skills and enjoyed lots of beach fun.

Today our Year 2s are exploring Rottnest, visiting the lighthouse, getting photos with quokkas and enjoying beach activities.

It has been another successful year of Encounters with students rising to the many challenges whilst developing the character strengths of teamwork, grit and resilience.

The Arts

At John Wollaston, we provide many experiences for children to follow their passions and interests through our co-curricular program. The Performing Arts is an area that has grown from strength to strength over the last few years.

The Year 5/6 Choir attended the ASC Choral Day, where they had the opportunity to work with other schools and enjoy learning from a guest conductor who taught them lots of fun musical rhythm games.

Our Musical Theatre students joined with the Year 9 Drama students to perform The Grunch on Thursday and Friday night in the VMAC. The students brought lots of joy to the audience through their colourful outfits, wonderful singing and amazing choreography.

This week our Year 4 Choir was invited to join in the celebrations of Seniors' Week in Armadale. This was a lovely opportunity for our students to join with local residents and enjoy the benefits of intergenerational singing.

We also look forward to the Choir singing at Carols by Candlelight in Armadale on Saturday 2 December and the many musical performances at our end of term events.

I would like to thank Miss Hollie Burbage for her passion, dedication and developing a love of singing and performing in our students!

Orientation Day

Next Friday, we will have our Orientation Morning for children in PP to Year 6 in 2024. New students will be joining us for the morning and current students will enjoy the opportunity to have a ‘taste’ of the upcoming year. There is sure to be lots of excitement and nervous anticipation. We will work closely with all students to ensure a smooth transition into the next year level.

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents that assisted with Encounters, events and carnivals over the past two weeks. We really appreciate all your support and help. We couldn’t run these events without you!

Have a lovely weekend.
