Term 4- Week 8
Over the last few weeks the theme has definitely about our Year 6 students and their wonderful families that have been a part of our school community for 7 Years now, some even longer. I may be biased as I have my own daughter finishing at her Primary School too this year and watching her slowly transition into Year 7 is really bitter-sweet. Where does the time honestly go?!
Our Year 6 students and our Year 6 leaders, are some of the most respectful and caring students I have come across in many years. They ALWAYS represent our school exceptionally well at all events and excursions and really do apply themselves to the best of their ability. What wonderful role models we have had for the rest of the school this year with a great deal of responsibility shown at all times.
2024 Captains
Coming up soon will be the process of selecting our 2024 school and house captains and I've had a few students chat to me at the school gate at the end of the day asking me about leadership. My message is always that leadership really is about working hard for others to help everyone do their best and I wish all students good luck with that process. I wish we could have roles for everyone, but we know that's not how it works. We thank our families for their support of this process in advance.
Year 1/2 Stay Late
In other news, our Year 1/2 students had a wonderful time at their stay late evening a few weeks ago. The students enjoyed a variety of activities with their teachers which are featured in their update this week. When I went into visit them at various times in the evening, it was such excitement in the rooms as the thrill of staying past 3:20pm too effect. I think the highlight was the pizza delivery and the beautiful manners our junior students showed as they lined up for their favourite slice.
Concert
It is nearly SHOWTIME! Our students really have been working hard rehearsing their moves (as have the staff!) and it is nearly time to present their hard work to their families and friends. Please see our Compass post regarding ticket purchase, costumes and entry arrangements for students on the night. We are really looking forward to a fun evening. A very special thank-you in advance to Jared Smith who has worked tirelessly to pull together a wonderful show.
New staff for 2024
It is my pleasure to announce a few new staff will be joining us next year at MPS. I thought I would introduce a few this edition, and then a few more in our last edition.
This week it is our Prep team for 2024. Ryan Fischer (returning staff member) and Ashlee Merchant will be joining us to embark on the journey of teaching Prep in 2024. Please see a little blurb and photo about them both.
Ryan Fischer- I am very excited to be returning to Moriac PS and meeting new students and families. In my spare time I enjoy running, snowboarding and relaxing on the beach. I spend way too much money on books and plants but you can never have too many… My favourite food is my Mum’s homemade lasagne and I have two pet ducks and two chickens. Looking forward to 2024!
My name is Ashlee Merchant. I began teaching in 2018 and I have taught in a variety of different year levels. I am excited to begin working at Moriac PS. I have always lived in Geelong and on weekends, I enjoy catching up with family and friends, going out for brunch/dinner and playing tennis. I can’t wait to meet you all! 😊
As a staff we have begun the arduous task of building our class lists and thank you for you support with this process. In the next edition, I will be able to announce our staffing profile to the wider school community and your children will most definitely know whose class they will be in by the state wide transition day.
Moriac Pedestrian Crossing
Recently we featured in an article in the Surf Coast Times regarding the recent upgrade of the pedestrian crossing and the improved safety it has provided for our students families. Enjoy the article and our local celebs that featured in the article.
Thank you to everyone for a great Term 4 so far, we are in the home stretch now!
Have a great weekend,
Mel
