Performing Arts News

As we head towards the end of the school year, things traditionally get even busier here in the Drama Department!

On Monday of this week we had the Co-Curricular Expo for students in Years 6 to 9 to show them the full range of Co-Curricular options here at BMGS. In Drama, we have three Co-Curricular options available -

  • TheatreSports – runs all year on Wednesday afternoon from 3-4:30pm. TheatreSports is open to all Senior School students from Years 7 -12. We wrapped up this week for the year with a small in house competition, the kids were fantastic! Thank you to our TheatreSports Coach Sophie Prior.
  • Senior Production – runs from Term 1 until show week in Week 2 of Term 2 and is for students in years 10, 11 and 12.
  • Junior Production – runs from the end of Term 3 until show week in the second last week of Term 4 and is for students in Years 7, 8 and 9.

Thank you to Matt and Sierra, our Performing Arts Captains, for organising and running the Performing Arts Stall. When I dropped past it was very popular.

On Wednesday of this week, Year 12 Drama travelled to Riverside Theatre were we watched a performance of ‘The End of Winter’ by Noëlle Janaczewska. This was a stunningly beautiful one woman performance essay about climate change and grief. It is described as “A story of winter written in the heat of summer”. After the performance our students were lucky enough to have a 2 hour Masterclass with the director of the work Kate Gaul, and performer Jane Phelan.

This masterclass covered the creation process of the work, looking at script analysis, design, sound and lighting, acting, and direction. Both Kate and Jane were so generous with their time and our students found this extremely helpful to their studies. Thank you to Riverside Theatre and Siren Theatre Company for making this phenomenal opportunity available for our students.

Next week is even busier!
