Fantastical concepts
As part of the Creative Arts Learning Activity in the student's final week of school, the Year 7s participated in an Art Wonderland Day. This introduced the cohort to Lewis Caroll's classic story of Alice Liddell's adventures underground and provided inspiration for imaginative artworks that reflected fantastical concepts of tea parties, wild underground journeys and nonsensical adventures.
The day included a visit to the Art Gallery of Western Australia to see The Antipodean Manifesto which includes seminal works by Australian Artists such as Blackman, Boyd and Dickerson. Students were able to view the works closely and consider Blackman's own interpretation of Lewis Carroll's classic story of Alice in his paintings 'The Alice Series'. The Antipodean Manifesto and the Exquisite Bodies workshop were all part of this exciting initiative.
After their short practical painting activity in preparation for their visit, students headed off to the Cultural Precinct where they experienced several different sessions including warmups, drawing, sculpture making, and a tour of the exhibition. Once there all activities were based on the concepts of embodiment/disability/difference that were introduced in the exhibition Exquisite Bodies.
It was a wonderful day of arts learning and human understanding for all.
