Happy Holidays

I cannot quite believe that the Christmas break is upon us with this the last edition of The Dragon for 2023.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of the St George’s Anglican Grammar School community a very safe summer holidays and a happy and holy Christmas. On behalf of the wider school community, I would like to thank all staff (teaching and support) for their tireless efforts, dedication, commitment and enthusiasm this year and for providing the very best learning environment for all of our students. I hope that all connected to our school enjoy the change of pace and routines provided by the Christmas period and have the opportunity to spend precious time with family and friends over the holiday break.

Presentation Night this week was a fitting conclusion to the school year which celebrated the diverse array of accomplishments achieved by our students throughout the 2023 school year. It very much focused on the joy of the school year and commemorated the achievements and hard work of our students across all levels and activities.

Congratulations to all students who committed themselves to their studies, to the co-curricular program, to the sporting and musical arenas available at the School, and to those who involved themselves in an array of community service activities – Well done to you all. The outstanding opportunities for our students to grow and shine, both inside and outside of the classroom, were certainly recognised and celebrated as a whole school community at Presentation Night and for that I am most grateful.

This year has been marked with great energy and success in many areas of school life – we have commenced a brand new student exchange program in Year 10, we have created a new curriculum across Years 7 to 9 known collectively as ‘Inspired Minds’, we have successful allowed for our Year 10s to have a week of Work Experience placements mostly in and around the city, we have created a School Tik Tok account, we had an amazing PUFFs production at the Heath Ledger Theatre, we had success in the sporting arena, we expanded our Dance repertoire, we have added a range of diverse pathways for our Year 11 and 12 students, we have had the new role of Heads of Year created to support our students pastorally, we have performed musically in a variety of places throughout the city, we have added a new ‘Festival of Learning’ to conclude the school year and we have appointed a School Counsellor to help us all focus on our health and positive wellbeing.

As we are now in the season of advent – I leave you with a Christmas Liturgy composed by Howard Thurman, an African-American theologian, educator, and civil rights leader entitled – The Work of Christmas.

When the song of the angels is stilled,

when the star in the sky is gone,

when the kings and princes are home,

when the shepherds are back with their flocks,

the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost,

to heal the broken,

to feed the hungry,

to release the prisoner,

to rebuild the nations,

to bring peace among the people,

to make music in the heart.

For me as Principal, having the opportunity to support, guide and celebrate your child’s educational journey is one of the greatest privileges and honours that any educator could possibly have. I absolutely love what I do and do what I love here as Principal of St George’s Anglican Grammar School.

I wish every student, staff member, parent, guardian, carer, and family of our wonderful St George’s Community a joyous and blessed Christmas.

I look forward to seeing you all again for the new academic year in 2024!

God Bless.
