Year 6 Students Cardboard Arcade - Inspired by Caine’s Arcade

In a vibrant fusion of creativity, collaboration, and engineering, the Year 6 students recently completed a Design and Technology project that brought learning to life—and smiles to every face in the room – including staff!

Inspired by the heartwarming story of Caine’s Arcade, students embarked on a journey to design and construct their own arcade games using recyclable materials. The project challenged them to think like engineers: considering the properties of different resources, planning collaboratively, testing prototypes, and making thoughtful decisions throughout the construction process.

With great creativity and skill-based challenges, each game was a testament to the students’ ingenuity and teamwork. The process wasn’t just about building—it was about problem-solving, adapting designs, and reflecting on what worked and what could be improved.

Once the arcade was complete, the Year 6 students transformed the Covered Assembly Space into a buzzing arcade hub. Their special guests? The Pre-Primary students, who were invited to play the games with the support and guidance of their older peers.

The atmosphere was electric—music filled the air, laughter echoed through the space, and smiles were everywhere. It was a moment of pure joy and connection, where learning met leadership and creativity met community.

This project not only showcased the students’ technical skills but also highlighted their empathy, patience, and ability to mentor younger learners. It was challenging Timezone indeed!! Great memories!
