Club de Español

¡Hola familias!
Last Monday, we had an activity in which we explored saying “dichos” (known as traditional sayings) in Spanish and their counterparts in English. We learnt about old proverbs, such as “A caballo regalado no se le mira el diente”- Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and their history. We learnt that this saying is also used in many other languages.
In groups, all kids and parents, played to match different sayings in Spanish and English. Some of these were:
“Más vale pájaro en mano, que cien volando”- A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
“Perro que ladra, no muerde”- Barking dogs, never bite
“De tal palo, tal astilla”- Like father, like son
“Al que madruga, Dios le ayuda”- The early bird catches the worm
“Más vale tarde, que nunca”- Better late than never
“No hay mal que por bien no venga”- Every cloud has a silver lining.
After the activity, we went outdoors to play “El Lobo”, also known as “Juguemos en el Bosque”, which is similar to What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?”. The kids enjoyed running and playing outside. You can look up the song in YouTube or Spotify and play at home!
