Science

Grade 5/6
5/6 students began working on their Earth and Space Inquiry project this week. The students formed teams, then chose a natural hazard and researched to help understand how their hazard forms, and the geological processes the hazards are linked to. Students chose a range of natural disasters including volcanoes, tsunamis, cyclones, tornadoes, floods and bushfires.
Grade 3/4
Students are developing a stop motion video with a focus on communicating their understanding of the natural water cycle. Students are including details and preparing to demonstrate various stages of the water cycle including evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, run-off, infiltration and percolation.
Grade 2
In groups, students made a Moon using air dry clay. They will be painting these next week then hanging them up inside a shadow box to observe the sun's role in the phases of the moon.
Grade 1
Grade 1 students continue to explore the rotation of the Sun, Moon and Earth. This week they created a model showing how the Earth rotates around the Sun, and the Moon rotates around the Earth. This helps students to understand that the Sun does not rotate around the Earth and also explains how solar eclipses occur.
Prep
Prep students used their imaginations to step into Spring and describe the things they can see, feel, hear, touch and smell. Students then worked in groups to make a dramatized scene of Spring which they performed for the whole class. Students have also been drawing the seasons onto coloured paper, which will become a display for the board outside the science room over the next few weeks.
Until next time, remember to act like a proton and stay positive!
