As the year winds down, the Wellbeing Team likes to reflect on our work over the past year. We’re so grateful to everyone who has connected with us this year – whether it’s been through a conversation, seeking support for a friend, joining a lunchtime club, participating in a workshop or reaching out when things have been tough. It's been a huge Term 4 for us, with all staff on board!

Mental Health First Aid at NHS

Year 10 students have just completed their Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. They now join the Year 7s in being official Mental Health First Aiders. MHFA gives our school community the confidence to recognise and respond to the early signs of mental health challenges. To further support this, a dedicated group of staff will complete Youth MHFA training this week, alongside a group of parents and carers. Building this shared language and skillset across students, families and staff strengthens our ability to look out for one another, reduces stigma, and ensures young people feel supported by every adult and peer around them. It truly is life saving stuff! Thanks to everyone who has been involved.

Mental Health Month

We also celebrated Mental Health Month this term, with the theme of Empowering Self

and Communities. Students learned that wellbeing can be fun and community-minded. Students enjoyed bubble tea, met with therapy dogs and participated in self-care activities while also contributing to our Share the Dignity fundraiser. We want to say a HUGE thank you to all students and families who contributed to this fundraiser, we were able to donate over 60 bags to the Its in the Bag campaign that supports women and girls experiencing homelessness.

Navigating social media age restrictions

From 10 December, 2025 age restrictions will apply to social media platforms. This will of course be a big change for many students, there are a number of guides and resources to support teens to find out the facts and understand what the ban will mean for them:

Parents and carers might like to learn how to support healthy online habits including the 5 M’s of digital wellness, helping your child stay healthy online and (particularly for younger students) setting up a contract with your teen for their mobile phone use.
