In year 7 Drama, we explored the different elements of ancient Greek theater and implemented it into our Greek mythology performances. Throughout this unit, we developed a variety of skills and knowledge that will apply to future productions. This includes the fundamentals of set design and understanding the unique role of the chorus, a character that supports the general plotline. We even made traditional masks to portray distinct characters and enrich the play’s aesthetic.
This unit showcased the Greek theatre’s influence on their society, leading us to better understand the importance of practicing these performances and its role in ancient entertainment culture. Our class particularly loved how this unit celebrated and explored culture when transforming our work into a tribute to this ancient civilization. This all couldn’t be possible without our teacher, Ms. Bastian, being consistently enthusiastic and supportive in our learning.
