Yr 8 Girls State Hockey

On the 14th of November 14 year 8 girls, accompanied by Miss Dridan and Mr. Dalla, competed in the year 8 state hockey tournament. It was a hot, sunny day but the girls fought hard in each game. They played East Doncaster and Irymple Secondary College sadly losing 1-0 and 2-0. Their coaches, Ruby and Maddy, helped them improve over the day to staying in the attacking half for most of their second game. Well done girls and better luck next year

On Monday 17 November, the Northcote High School Boys/Mixed Intermediate Basketball team travelled to MSAC to compete in the State Basketball Finals.

The team played three competitive pool games, starting with a tight loss to Catholic College Wodonga by just 4 points. They bounced back strongly with an impressive 64–51 win over St Joseph’s College Echuca, followed by a solid 47–34 victory against Monivae College. Despite their strong performances, the boys narrowly missed out on a place in the grand final.

All players contributed across the day, with Wim Lobb, Charlie Stoilkovski and Felix Hodge standing out for their efforts.

A big thank you to Lucas Gillingham for coaching on the day.

Our 5 boys won 3 out of 6 six sets but lost marginally on games won against both eventual finalists - Doncaster East and Rowville SC. They won easily against Wodonga and Echuca Colleges. Leon Suljovic won all of his single matches as No 1 seed against all four schools we played. He was the best player at the State tournament. Our other players namely Harry Dichiera, Oscar Gaymer, Alessio Pasquale and Oscar Sharp all played some great matches. Liam Cowie who injured himself the day before couldn’t play but still attended to support his teammates. This is the second year these boys have won through to the State finals. To finish a close third two years running is a great effort when you consider over 400 Victorian schools compete at the entry level in these events.

On Friday, the 9/10 boys competed in the state table tennis competition. After some very competitive matches, we came second in our pool, moving on to the semifinals where we had a series challenging battles. We ended up tying for third place. We had lots of fun overall and it was a big accomplishment.

That’s a wrap for 2025

As sport comes to a close for another busy year, we would like to thank all involved.  From the students participating, our staff, and students' coaches.  Our sport department couldn’t run without participation and coaching. We look forward to planning and organising another busy year for 2026.
