The Fearless Journey

This year, the HEAL (Humanities, English and EAL) Illuminate program invited us to explore one powerful idea: what it means to be fearless, a concept that also happens to be our school’s theme for 2025. Over twelve weeks, we examined fear and courage through many different lenses, from literature and film to real people who changed the world. We asked questions like: Is fearlessness always a virtue? Can someone still be brave if they’re afraid?

Through group discussions, debate, creative writing, and analytical studies, we explored the concept of fearlessness in depth to develop our own unique perspectives. We explored fearless characters in stories, analysed advocates like Malala and Martin Luther King Jr., and experimented with poetry and persuasive argument writing that pushed us outside our comfort zones. Each of us then chose a path, creative or analytical, to showcase how our own understanding of fearlessness had evolved.

Illuminate has challenged us to think deeply, write boldly, and express our ideas with confidence. The program this year has certainly encouraged us to take risks, to question, to create and, importantly, be fearless in our approach to writing and thinking outside the box.

It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers join us this morning at The EDGE for the showcase. Your attendance makes this celebration of our knowledge, creativity, and curiosity even more special.

Finally, a big thank you to our incredible teachers, Ms Graham and Ms Rossow, for guiding us through the HEAL Illuminate program for 2025.
