R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day was celebrated last Thursday 12th September, with lots of splashes of yellow being worn by students and staff. There were many interesting conversations happening throughout classes about how to ask “R U OK?”, how to make thoughtful choices as a friend, the importance of conversations to learn more about others, and also being interested to hear each other's opinions. In the end, everyday ought to be “R U OK?” day.

During Senior Chapel, Lana Siebert a Youth Mental Health Crisis Coordinator with the ‘Let’s Talk’ Foundation spoke about this charity’s mission and values which aligned very closely with R U OK, our national suicide prevention charity. Lana mentioned the importance of raising awareness around the need to talk about our mental health, how to maintain healthy wellbeing and the significance of being connected to others.

Mr Wakim followed Lana’s discussion with his Chapel talk on showing compassion to others through our interest in them, our care and concern for them, as Jesus spoke about and modelled to his disciples and followers. Mr Wakim used Ephesians 4:19 as a warning of a calloused heart that can become numb and desensitised to sin when we live “without restraints” doing whatever we feel like doing, regardless of what God or anybody else says about it.

At lunchtime, the Senior Students joined in with the enjoyable game of Two Truths and a Lie, which involved the students listening to three statements from various staff members and then choosing which one of these is a lie. Meanwhile, our Junior School students were able to take part in outdoor games of Marco Polo, Fruit Salad, Egg and Spoon relay, Tunnel Ball and a fun attempt at a Mexican Wave.
