Premier’s Debating Challenge 2024
The Premier’s Debating Challenge for 2024 has come to an end.
In Round 4, Dundas Gold (Year 6) defeated Dundas Grey (Year 5) in a very close debate! Dundas Gold then went on to the first round of the regional finals where they went up against Metella Road Public School.
The topic was that schools should make their top students spend one afternoon a week helping a struggling student. Our team was the affirmative and were very impressive in their arguments and rebuttals, but unfortunately the result did not go our way this time.
I encourage our Year 6 team to continue their debating journey in High School, as it is a great skill to have and a wonderful way to make new friends! I also encourage our Year 5’s and our upcoming Year 4’s to try out for the debating teams next year. Participation in debating helps young people to speak up with confidence while improving their literacy and communication skills. Our school has a long history of debating and public speaking and we are very proud of our students who represent our school in the NSW Premier's Challenges in debating, public speaking and spelling.
All the best to Jessy and Rebecca who will soon be participating in the regional trials to gain a place on the Western Sydney Regional Debating Team and to our Year 5 debaters who will attend a debating day at Burnside Public School.
