Ancient World Trip
Exploring the Classics in Greece
During the recent school holidays, a group of Year 11 and 12 Ancient History and Classical Studies students travelled to Greece and Italy for an incredible experience exploring the ancient world.
After around 20 hours of flying, we landed in Rome. Whilst there, we visited the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Catacombs, and a theme park! A highlight for me and many others was the Saint Callixtus Catacombs, where we were able to visit part of the world’s oldest underground grave system.
Our next stop was Naples. We ate some incredible pizza and visited the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which gave us an invaluable insight into Ancient Roman living.
We then left Italy behind to fly to Athens, where we were met by incredible weather and a hotel with views of the Acropolis. We visited many incredible Ancient sites whilst in Greece, including Mycenae, Delphi, and Olympia. And we also spent plenty of time shopping, exploring, and petting stray cats. For many, a highlight was our time spent in the beautiful town of Delphi, which was up in the mountains and had incredible views, as well as more opportunities to relax.
The Ancient Worlds trip was an excellent experience, and we are all so grateful to everyone who made it happen. Particular thanks to Ms Gerantidis, Ms Purcell and Mr Arandt!
